Kindergarten Prep curriculum focuses on literacy and academic content in an intentionally developed preschool environment. Fundations, which provides a strong foundation for reading and writing, is introduced and focused on daily. Traditional Kindergarten Prep is designed to give students that will be attending a Traditional Kindergarten a jump-start on their educational pathway. Traditional Kindergarten Prep children will participate in primary language arts (Spalding), math (Math in Focus), science, music, art, and physical education through hands-on discovery and other age-appropriate activities. S.T.E.A.M. Kindergarten Prep (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) students at Quartz Hill will be a part of an A School of Excellence where they will have the opportunity for real-world hands-on/minds-on learning. Quartz Hill K-Prep students will be involved in a full-day of project-based learning and introduced to coding. Through these experiences, children will use their imagination, be innovators and be inspired as emerging Trailblazers! Gifted Cluster Kindergarten Prep is offered at Ashland Ranch Elementary. Student can be placed in the Gifted Cluster after qualifying through testing with a certified school psychologist. There is a $175 fee for the testing.     Registration for the 2023-2024 School Year will open on Friday, May 19th. Due to staffing shortages, we have closed registrations at the following VIK Club locations, at this time. If you are interested in adding your child to a waitlist at any of these locations, please call the Community Education Business Office at 480-892-9089 x0. Ashland, Augusta, Finley Farms, Harris, Meridian, Mesquite El, Neely, Playa del Rey, Quartz Hill, and Sonoma Ranch. The VIK Club program has moved to a monthly invoice/billing system. When monthly charges have been invoiced according to the selected schedule for a student, a copy of the invoice is sent via email indicating the invoice due date. A $25.00 late fee will be assessed if payment is not submitted by the due date with subsequent $25.00 late fee charges assessed until the balance is paid in full. If a student does not need to start attending the VIK Club program immediately, please ensure a start date is selected to avoid being invoiced prior to student attendance. VIK Club dates for the 2023-2024 School Year are July 25, 2023 through May 22, 2024 About Us The VIK Club program is designed to support the needs of today's working families. The VIK club is a safe, fun-filled extended learning program available to Gilbert Public School families, for GPS students Kindergarten through 6th Grade. The VIK Club is proud to offer various student activities and opportunities that reinforce the educational programming of Gilbert Public Schools and encourage a student’s personal growth by cultivating life skills, strong relationships, and a sense of self-worth. The VIK Club program is offered at twenty six of the Gilbert Public Schools Elementary Schools. Regular Hours of Operation are 6:30AM - 8:10AM for the Before School program and 2:55PM - 6:00PM for the After School program. The VIK Before School program includes breakfast and a free choice of various fun, and educational activities. Students from 1st-6th grades are released 10-15 minutes before the start of the school day. Kindergarten students are either walked to, or picked up and escorted to the playground by the VIK site staff or a school teacher. The VIK After School program includes an afternoon snack, quiet time for homework, outdoor activities, active games, S.T.E.A.M activities, and a free choice of various activities such as board games, free drawing, and quiet area.     Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year is Open Regular Hours of Operation School Day - 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Extended Day - 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. About us Gilbert Public Schools is proud to offer Building Blocks Preschool, a full day preschool program that allows your 3, 4, or young 5-year-old firsthand experiences of what it means to be a student. Our uniquely designed curriculum, based on the AZ Early Childhood Standards, helps create a foundation for your young student to build upon as they move towards their school career. Within the 3’s program, students will engage with specially designed, curriculum-based material. By utilizing circle time students are introduced to letters, numbers, colors, days of the week, months, and weather. While using a small group setting, our 3-year-old's complete six learning centers a day. In between learning centers are lunch, rest time, and exploration play. The day begins and concludes with a structured based play which focusses on socialization. Children must be 3 years old by August 31st and must be completely independent in toileting; to be considered completely independent in toileting, a child must be able to do ALL of the following: Are able to communicate the need to go to the toilet; including but not limited to, demonstrating control over going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if away from the bathroom. Staff will participate in a minimum of 18 hours of professional development each school year. The Building Blocks Program is a Monthly Tuition Program. The cost is based on the days selected for the entire school year, then broken down into 10 equal monthly payments. The VIK After School program includes an afternoon snack, quiet time for homework, outdoor activities, active games, S.T.E.A.M activities, and a free choice of various activities such as board games, free drawing, and quiet area. Half Days (students are released at 11:55 am) for the 2023-2024 School Year are 8/30/23, 9/21/23 & 9/22/23 (Parent Teacher Conferences), 9/29/23, 10/25/23, 12/19/23, 1/24/24, 2/28/24 & 3/8/24. Our uniquely designed curriculum, based on the AZ Early Childhood Standards, helps create a foundation for your young student to build upon as they move towards their school career. Within the 3’s program, students will engage with specially designed, curriculum-based material. By utilizing circle time students are introduced to letters, numbers, colors, days of the week, months, and weather. While using a small group setting, our 3-year-old's complete six learning centers a day. In between learning centers are lunch, rest time, and exploration play. The day begins and concludes with a structured based play which focusses on socialization. Children must be 3 years old by August 31st and must be completely independent in toileting; to be considered completely independent in toileting, a child must be able to do ALL of the following: Are able to communicate the need to go to the toilet; including but not limited to, demonstrating control over going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if away from the bathroom. Can independently pull down their underwear and pants and pull them back up when done. This includes clothing with belts, buttons, zippers etc., if worn to school Can independently clean their bottoms after using the toilet Get on and off the toilet by themselves Wash and dry their hands by themselves Disposable training pants (i.e. Pull-ups) are not permitted per AZDHS Licensing Building Blocks will provide a full healthy breakfast for those families choosing the extended day option. Family style snacks will be provided to all students. Building Blocks’ students will be eating in the school cafeteria. Although lunch will not be provided, the student will be enrolled in the school lunch program so they may purchase a hot lunch. All programs are licensed by Arizona Department of Health Services. Staff will participate in a minimum of 18 hours of professional development each school year. The Building Blocks Program is a Monthly Tuition Program. The cost is based on the days selected for the entire school year, then broken down into 10 equal monthly payments.     GYA is committed to expanding opportunities for our student athletes to continue participating in youth sports. We are excited to announce that we will be offering a 3rd-8th grade volleyball league. Join us for the summer season of GYA Volleyball. GYA Volleyball will focus on key team building skills and sportsmanship while strengthening your student's volleyball skills. 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade students will participate in Monday & Wednesday evening games and a tournament. Game times will be 5:30pm, 6:30pm or 7:30pm SCORING Three sets will be played to 25; win by 2; no cap (1 hour max) Third set will be played even if opposing teams wins first two set. Season will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June. Games will be played on an 8 foot rim at an elementary school and use a 27.5 youth size basketball. Teams will be created by students home school with practice at a neighboring elementary school. No score will be kept. Practice will start the last week of May and there will be an hour practice each week. Day and time of the week TBD by coach. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm or 6:30pm. Clinic: The format for the league is once a week, Saturday, for 75 minutes. Specifically, 45 minutes of skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and 3v3 for the remaining 30 minutes. Teams are created each week to ensure a competitive balance. The 3v3 format provides more "touches" for players which contributes to a better overall experience. In addition, 3v3 allows the offense more space to score and be successful.     Registration for the 2023-2024 School Year will open on Friday, May 19th. Due to staffing shortages, we have closed registrations at the following VIK Club locations, at this time. If you are interested in adding your child to a waitlist at any of these locations, please call the Community Education Business Office at 480-892-9089 x0.     Registration for Holiday Camps will open on August 28, 2023. This school year we are handling Holiday Camp registrations in individual blocks. Each Holiday Camp will have a separate registration for each of the Breaks & One Day camps.     Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year is Open Regular Hours of Operation School Day - 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Extended Day - 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. About us Gilbert Public Schools is proud to offer Building Blocks Preschool, a full day preschool program that allows your 3, 4, or young 5-year-old firsthand experiences of what it means to be a student. Our uniquely designed curriculum, based on the AZ Early Childhood Standards, helps create a foundation for your young student to build upon as they move towards their school career. Within the 3’s program, students will engage with specially designed, curriculum-based material. By utilizing circle time students are introduced to letters, numbers, colors, days of the week, months, and weather. While using a small group setting, our 3-year-old's complete six learning centers a day. In between learning centers are lunch, rest time, and exploration play. The day begins and concludes with a structured based play which focusses on socialization. Children must be 3 years old by August 31st and must be completely independent in toileting; to be considered completely independent in toileting, a child must be able to do ALL of the following: Are able to communicate the need to go to the toilet; including but not limited to, demonstrating control over going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if away from the bathroom. Can independently pull down their underwear and pants and pull them back up when done. This includes clothing with belts, buttons, zippers etc., if worn to school Can independently clean their bottoms after using the toilet Get on and off the toilet by themselves Wash and dry their hands by themselves Disposable training pants (i.e. Pull-ups) are not permitted per AZDHS Licensing Building Blocks will provide a full healthy breakfast for those families choosing the extended day option. Family style snacks will be provided to all students. Building Blocks’ students will be eating in the school cafeteria. Although lunch will not be provided, the student will be enrolled in the school lunch program so they may purchase a hot lunch. All programs are licensed by Arizona Department of Health Services. Staff will participate in a minimum of 18 hours of professional development each school year. The Building Blocks Program is a Monthly Tuition Program. The cost is based on the days selected for the entire school year, then broken down into 10 equal monthly payments. Three Schedules are available for parents to select during the registration process - Full Time Monday - Friday, Part Time 3 Days per week - Monday, Wednesday & Friday or Part Time 2 Days per week - Tuesday & Thursday.
