  • GYA 5th-8th Grade Volleyball

    GYA is committed to expanding opportunities for our student athletes to continue participating in youth sports. We are excited to announce that we will be offering a 3rd-8th grade volleyball league. Join us for the summer season of GYA Volleyball. GYA Volleyball will focus on key team building skills and sportsmanship while strengthening your student's volleyball skills. 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th grade students will participate in Monday & Wednesday evening games and a tournament. Game times will be 5:30pm, 6:30pm or 7:30pm SCORING Three sets will be played to 25; win by 2; no cap (1 hour max) Third set will be played even if opposing teams wins first two set. Coaches call lines Need a parent volunteer to run score board SERVING Players may serve underhand Each player can only serve up to 5 continuous serves Serves made from 20 ft line or 5th/6th all serves are underhand or overhand Serves 30 ft line for 7th/8th (20 ft line for first 3 games if needed) all serves overhand Top team on schedule serves first, bottom team second set, top team third set PLAY/SUBSTITION/ROTATION A team needs 5 players to avoid a forfeit (may borrow to play) If ball hits ceiling, it’s out If ball hits basketball hoop, replay point Net height is 7’4” Warm up is 3 x 3 x 3 minutes prior to start of game GOAL Receiving, Passing and Setting Goal is 3 touches before hitting over net

    Gilbert Youth Athletics is committed to providing top-tier coaching, utilizing elite facilities and focusing on the overall development of each student-athlete. It is our belief that great athletes must develop fundamental skills at a young age which prepares them for a future of success as they progress through high school and college programs. Athletes have access to some of the best coaches in the state of Arizona who are committed to the development of young athletes, while also spending significant time emphasizing character and sportsmanship. Programs will receive championship banners to hang in multipurpose rooms at the conclusion of each season.   • GYA K-6th Grade Basketball

    PURPOSE: Provide an atmosphere that allows participants to become engaged and grow as individuals and basketball players. Kinder-2nd Grade (COED) Kinder, 1st/2nd will be coed. Season will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June. Games will be played on an 8 foot rim at an elementary school and use a 27.5 youth size basketball. Teams will be created by students home school with practice at a neighboring elementary school. No score will be kept. Practice will start the last week of May and there will be an hour practice each week. Day and time of the week TBD by coach. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm or 6:30pm. Clinic: The format for the league is once a week, Saturday, for 75 minutes. Specifically, 45 minutes of skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and 3v3 for the remaining 30 minutes. Teams are created each week to ensure a competitive balance. The 3v3 format provides more "touches" for players which contributes to a better overall experience. In addition, 3v3 allows the offense more space to score and be successful. The focus is to make sure every player has success and a great experience. 3rd/4th Grade Basketball league will be a 6 games plus tournament (will have a girls league if there is enough participation) Games will be played on an 10 foot rim at a junior high school and use a 28.5 size basketball. (Girls 9 foot rim) Teams will be created by students home school with practice at a neighboring elementary school. Practice will start the last week of May and there will be an hour practice each week. Day and time of the week TBD by coach. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30pm, 6:30pm or 7:30pm. Clinic: The format for the league is once a week, Saturday, for 75 minutes. Specifically, 45 minutes of skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and 3v3 for the remaining 30 minutes. Teams are created each week to ensure a competitive balance. Teams will be created by students home school with practice at a neighboring elementary/junior high school. Practice will start the last week of May and there will be an hour practice each week. Day and time of the week TBD by coach. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30pm, 6:30pm or 7:30pm. Clinic: The format for the league is once a week, Saturday, for 75 minutes. Specifically, 45 minutes of skills, such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and 3v3 for the remaining 30 minutes. Teams are created each week to ensure a competitive balance.
